origins of garba and raas
The origins of dance in general come from primitive rituals. In india these primeval dances were nurtured and refined and made intricate and classical to portray various emotions and longings. As time passed it became difficult for those not accomplished in classical forms of dance to take part. Hence folk dances such as garba came into being to allow the mass of people to enjoy the bliss and benediction of dance, and allow them to express and realise differing moods and emotions.
Naturally people were in awe and wonder at the world and sought to appeal to higher powers which they sought to appease and worship in numerous ways including dance. The Hindu faith began with dance and still continues, endures , survives and blooms in dance.
